| OPP: Warning for electric scooter owners |
The area OPP have
received many inquiries about the legality of driving electric bikes and scooters on Ontario roads. These toy-like
items are being sold in stores everywhere and are becoming very popular.
Police want to remind everyone that these electric scooters, motorbike replicas and power-assisted / electric bicycles
cannot be driven on Ontario roads. They do not meet the Ontario safety standards for on-road use. Some scooters
can be operated on sidewalks or bike paths, dependant on local municipality by-laws.
Some items sold in stores are not made for road use and are meant for off-road or for display-only purposes. Please
make sure before buying.

| Patricia Way: OPP Volunteer passes suddenly |
It is with the deepest
regret that Russell County OPP announce the sudden passing of Patricia Way, Victim Services Coordinator (VSU)/Volunteer
Coordinator at the Rockland office.
Patricia's late husband Sam Way served as a Sgt at this office before his untimely death in 1977. Patricia was
a founding member of the VSU in Rockland 13 years ago and a major contributor to Community Policing in East Region.

Local leadership changes in Russell County:
S/Sgt. Steven Waite |
The OPP in Russell County have a new leader. S/Sgt Steven Waite is the new Detachment Commander of the
Embrun and Rockland Offices.
He does not have far to move as he is a native of the Hawkesbury area and began his policing career 20 years ago
with the Hawkesbury Police Service. In 1999 during amalgamation he joined the OPP. Most of his career (13 years)
has been specialized in the crime unit and for the past 11 years he served as Detective Sgt at the Hawkesbury Detachment.
Fluently bilingual with a BA from Ottawa University, S/Sgt Waite is looking forward to managing the two OPP offices
in Embrun and Rockland employing approximately 55 men and women. When asked what the future holds in store he replied
“every page turned welcomes a whole new set of challenges and rewards.” He is very much looking forward to better
knowing the community here and the officers that provide it’s policing.

Neighbourhood Watch

Our communities joined the Neighbourhood Watch campaign several years ago but the
effort has become all but dormant. All that remains really are the signs along Canaan and the individual developments.
Part of the problem is a lack of active volunteers to do regular updates.
(SEE: Community Association)
Local Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) coordinator, Constable Diana Hampson, has
offered to help us reestablish an active group with regular meetings.
It is incumbent on all of us to participate in the Neighbour- hood Watch program, even if we do not get regular
updates through the volunteer telephone tree.
Be a "nosy neighbour" when it comes to any suspicious activity that you
come across, and contact the OPP. Their "police assistance" number is: 1-888-310-1122.
For any administrative information you can still call the Rockland Detachment at 446-5124, Monday to Friday.

Here is an active Neighbourhood Watch Website from Parkhill. It gives you some suggestions on how YOU can help
the Neighbourhood Watch program. Click
